Putting Excitement into Water!

Water can taste, well bland. It is a necessary part of our diet, but can lack the flavors we crave. Flavors are abundant among other beverages on the market, but extra calories, sugars and artificial flavors often are added. But, you can make your own flavored water at home! All you will need are a few of your favorite fruits or vegetables, herbs, a jar or a pitcher, a wooden spoon, and a small strainer (if desired to remove herbs).
Fresh fruits and herbs work best when in season because they will provide the most flavor. Citrus fruits like oranges, limes, and lemons can all add a little extra flavor to your glass, but they aren’t the only fruits that will work. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and pineapple are also good choices. Even some veggies can make a great combination like cucumbers which can be very refreshing. Mixing in some mint, rosemary, lavender or cilantro can add a nice twist to your drink.

Place your herbs, fruits and veggies to the pitcher or jar first, mash them with the spoon in order to release some of the juices and bruise the leaves of the herbs, add a cup or two of ice, then add water. Put the pitcher in the fridge to chill, and enjoy a more flavorful version of water without the additives.
