How Important is Water to the Body?

When most people think of water, they think about how much we should drink. Our bodies are made up of 60 percent water. Without enough water, our bodies can become dehydrated, yet having too much water can cause our bodies to become overhydrated. These can both cause a person to have headaches, dizziness, and digestion problems. Four ways to get water throughout the day are having a water bottle on hand, eating fruits like strawberries that are high in water content, eating vegetables like carrots, and eating dairy products like yogurt. The amount of water a person should take in depends on four different factors, including age, gender, overall health, and activity. The amount of water a woman has to take in is more than that of a male. This is especially important when a woman is pregnant and breastfeeding. There are many different ways our bodies get rid of the water that is taken in throughout the day. Some of those ways include sweat, urine, and bowel movements.
