Examining fast food and frozen chicken nugget products has
led to the discovery that much of the nuggets consist of 50% or less chicken
muscle tissue, which is the breast or thigh meat that most of think of when we
think of chicken. Researchers found that the other half of the nugget consists
of fat, blood vessels, nerves, cartilage and bone. Companies have decided to
use a more cost efficient approach to making their products by using a mixture
of chicken parts instead of using just the meat. In the end, much of these
nugget brands are composed of a chicken by-product high in calories, salt,
sugar and fat, and then fried. The innocent chicken nuggets that many consumers
have fed their families, is now exposed as mystery meat as well as an unhealthy
product. Be sure to check the nutrition labels and information before
purchasing these and other products to be sure of what you are buying.
