Exciting First Year..........More to Come

What an exciting first year for the AU Dietetics Program! The list of accomplishments is quite long with future objectives for the upcoming year being outlined. Here are just a few:

  • 21 Students entered and declared themselves dietetics majors

  • The AU Student Dietetic Association (AUSDA) was formed and executive officers elected

  • Two editions of the Nutrition in the News Newsletter were completed and printed

  • 32 Public Service Announcements (PSA) were produced and recorded for the university radio station WRDL

  • A new AU Dietetics Program blog was created

  • Our AU homepage was improved and includes updates and links to various additions

  • Information related to our program is available via Twitter and Facebook

  • AU Dietetics Students were involved in a university sponsored Fitness and Wellness Day

  • Kidz Fit Intervention Program at the Ashland YMCA which involved children 8-12 years of age focusing on improving their health and fitness using nutrition education

  • Initiating a county wide program with the United Way

  • Students attended this year's Ohio Dietetic Association's Annual Conference in Cleveland Ohio

  • Students presented their research at the AU Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium (URCA)

  • Students will also be presenting their research this fall at the American Dietetic Association's National Conference in San Diego, CA

  • As well as presenting their research at The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA

  • AU Dietetic Students are also involved with Dr. Vanata's AU Fish Study Project which is currently underway and will continue for the next year or so

  • A new AU Dietetics Program video has just been completed and will be released in the next week or two, so look for the feed

It's difficult to believe that all of this could be completed in two semesters. It is amazing what can be accomplished when you have such talented, driven, and focused students.
We look forward to welcoming the incoming class of Fall 2011. Those entering ou program and Ashland University bring with them many skills, talents, and passions. It was an exciting first year..... with much, much, more to come. Stay tuned.
