Fire Up the Barbecue

Whether you're a weekend griller or an everyday griller, beef up your food safety and nutrition with these tips. Take the time to clean your grill before throwing your favorite foods on. This can be done by scrubbing your grill with hot soapy water until all charred debris and grease buildup after each use. You should also be sure to switch utensils, plates, and cutting boards between handling raw and cooked meats. Grilling may be delicious but it doesn't have to be unhealthy! Choosing lean cuts of beef, pork, poultry, and seafood can help you be mindful of fat. You can also add flavor and color to your meal by adding your favorite vegetable right on the grill. Vegetables such as peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, and carrots can be seasoned lightly and grilled until they are tender for a great nutritious addition to your barbecue. You can also toast up a healthy dessert by grilling fruit! Peaches, pineapples, or apples can be grilled and topped with whipped cream for a light, summery dessert. These tips can be used to make your favorite summertime meals safe and healthy!
