Whole grains contain 3 parts: the bran, the germ, and the endosperm. The bran and the germ help keep your body healthy, skin glowing, and hair shiny. All 3 parts of the whole grain are associated with a reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers. Barely, quinoa, oats, brown rice, whole grain pasta, and bread are all some whole grain foods. When reading food labels look for the words “whole grain” in the ingredient list. These products will also have higher fiber and fewer sugars.
