Stress is a common problem that many people
deal with. Constant stress can cause other long-term health problems, such as
depression, issues with sleeping, and digestive problems. Research linking
stress management and nutrients is limited, but there is some research
regarding antioxidants, B vitamins, and vitamin D. While antioxidants and B
vitamins are linked with normal brain functions, vitamin D is associated with
normal body functions. The best way to get these nutrients is through foods
rather than supplements. Incorporating whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans,
meats, fatty fish, and fortified dairy and soy products into your diet would be
a good way to get these nutrients. Since the research on specific nutrients
related to stress management is limited, though, the best way to manage stress
is to choose a balanced eating style and participate in regular physical
activity. Speak with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for help with this,
and seek other health care providers, such as a counselor if further help is
needed.
