Enhancing Meal Flavors

Next time you’re cooking, try using these simple techniques to enhance the flavor of your meals.
  • When cooking with meat, poultry, or fish, try grilling, broiling, or pan-searing to brown it in order to give it extra flavor, but please be careful because it can easily burn or over-cook.
  • Grilled or roasted vegetables should be cooked at a high temperature to get a sweet, smoky flavor. If another flavor is desired, try adding in some herbs and a bit of oil.
  • If wanting a bold flavor, try using a small amount of pomegranate seeds, cilantro, or chipotle peppers.
  • To caramelize onions, cook at a low heat with a bit of oil. This would go well in a home-made sauce for meat or poultry.
  • If going for something savory, try adding in different types of peppers to get some unique flavors; you can get them sweet, spicy, or dried.
  • Citrus juice or grated citrus peels are a great way to add in a tangy taste because the acidity helps lift and balance flavors.
  • For a flavor burst, use horseradish, wasabi, flavored mustard, bean purees, or chutney.
