Tips for Healthy Summer Beach Trips

If you are planning a trip to the beach this summer, follow these tips to stay healthy and safe.
  • Pack healthy snacks instead of buying food at the beach. Snacks like nuts, fruits and veggies, roasted chickpeas, and whole grain crackers are all good to bring.
  • If you do buy food at the beach, try to find foods like sandwiches on whole grain bread, wraps, grilled chicken salads, and fruit popsicles.
  • Along with snacks, don't forget to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated on hot days. Drinking enough water throughout the day is important, especially if you are in and out of the water and don't notice that you are sweating.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol as it can contribute to dehydration, as well as impair your judgement while swimming.
  • Bringing a cooler is important if you are packing food that needs to be kept cold. Make sure to thoroughly clean the cooler to kill any bacteria before using it and pack plenty of ice to keep food cold. When you get the food out of the cooler, don't let it sit out for more than 2 hours in the heat.
Overall, if you are spending the day at the beach, stay healthy by packing nutrient dense foods and staying hydrated.
