Tips for Healthier Holidays

During the holidays, it can be difficult to avoid weight gain at all of the feasts.  However, there are a few simple strategies that can make a big difference regarding the food at these feasts.

Tip #1: Don’t Skip Meals: Some people skip meals throughout the day to prepare for the big feasts coming up. However, skipping meals can actually result in overeating. Throughout the different meals of the day, fiber-rich foods should be incorporated to satisfy hunger with fewer calories. Fiber-rich foods include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Tip #2: Eat Smaller Portions: It is often easy to go back for seconds and eat large portions of food at the buffet-style feasts during the holidays. There are also many foods that are perceived as healthy, but still need to be consumed in moderation. Eating in moderation can result in healthier holidays.

Tip #3: Avoid Overeating: There are many strategies that can be used to avoid overeating. One strategy could be using a smaller plate, so that there is less space for large portions of food. Another strategy could be to fill up with salad and vegetables before reaching for high-calorie foods. The most important part of this tip is to choose a strategy and stick with it.

Tip #4: Keep Moving: Remember that physical activity is always important. Going for a walk or playing a game of basketball with family can be a good way to get physical activity and catch up with family at holiday get-togethers.

Keeping these tips in mind during the holidays can lead to a healthier lifestyle with less weight gain.
