How to Avoid Weight Gain at College

Weight gain is a problem that affects many college students. Some possible causes of weight gain could include decreased physical activity, unlimited food choices offered at dining halls, increased snacking, and increased intake of calorie dense beverages. However, there are many solutions that can be considered in order to decrease weight gain at the college stage of life. One of these solutions includes making healthy food choices. This can be done by watching portion sizes and consuming more nutrient-rich foods and beverages, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, seafood, lean meat, and nuts. Making healthy food choices could also include drinking low-calorie beverages and using more healthful fats to cook with, including olive oil and avocado oil. The other solution to weight gain during college would be to increase physical activity. At least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity should be done during most days of the week. These types of activities could include walking, jogging, biking, and yoga. With these tips in mind, weight gain could be limited within college students.
