Love Your Heart, Love Your Food

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America. About 29 percent of Americans have some form or heart/cardiovascular disease. Some risk factors cannot be controlled such as age and gender, but many can. If you are at high risk for heart disease or already have heart disease, it is important to consult a professional.
Here are a few steps to a healthier heart:
Making Healthy Food Choices
You can do this by eating more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and fatty fish. Some fatty fish include: salmon, lake trout, albacore tuna, mackerel or sardines. A good goal is to try and eat fatty fish at least twice a week and to fill your plate half full with fruits and vegetables. Legumes are also an affordable way to get fiber and protein.
You can also eat less foods that have added salt, sugar and fats.
Be Active
Regular moderate physical activity lowers blood pressure and helps your body control weight. You can start by just doing what you can. Always check with your physician before beginning a workout regimen.
Manage your Stress
Manage stress in whatever way works for you! This could be walking, playing games or maybe dancing.
