Achoo! What to Eat to Avoid Getting Sick
What kinds of foods have
immune boosting power? Protein is important in the diet to improve your immune
system. Some good sources of protein include eggs, beans and peas, seafood, and
lean meat. Some vitamins that are important to improve immune health include
vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin C. Vitamin A keeps the skin and mouth tissues
healthy so that infections cannot enter the body. Some sources of vitamin A
include sweet potatoes, carrots, kale, and spinach. Vitamin E forms antibodies
which gives the immune system a boost. Sources of vitamin C include grapefruit,
oranges, papaya, and strawberries. Vitamin E works as an antioxidant to improve
immune health. It neutralizes free-radicals. Sources of Vitamin E are sunflower
seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, and spinach. Zinc is also important to include in
the diet. Zinc helps wounds heal and helps the immune system work properly.
Zinc can be found in lean meat, poultry, whole grains, and beans. So to avoid
getting another cold or becoming sick, add these foods to your diet and stay
healthy!
