Restuarants Respond to New FDA Mandate
In 2013, food chains with twenty or more locations will be
required to have the calories listed for each item on the menu. Starting in
September, McDonald’s promptly added calories to their menus, far ahead of when
the mandate actually begins. Other companies are hesitant to start the change
because the FDA regulations were not clearly stated thus far. These companies
do not want to put extra time and work into the process is more details and
requirements will be set later this year. Calorie listing becomes complex is
restaurants such as pizzeria’s due to the extra toppings, and these restaurants
are searching for the best way to accurately display the calorie amounts.
